Application Site

We are living in a digital age where most of our daily tasks are performed in a matter of click or simply a touch. Smart technology has taken the world by storm, innovating the way we work, and enhancing our everyday tasks.

In continuing to innovate, Ricoh has introduced Application Site— which is sure to improve productivity when using Ricoh MFPs with the second generation Smart Operation Panel.

What is Application Site?

Application Site is an online repository of apps for the second generation Smart Operation Panel. It allows customers to install, update, and manage the apps by themselves.

The site, which can be accessed directly from the Smart Operation Panel, supports native embedded apps, hybrid apps, and browser web apps. However, it does not support device SDK apps and legacy multifunction product (MFP) browser apps.

Simply put, Application Site is home to all the handy apps that run on the Smart Operation Panel to carry out the smart functions the MFPs offer.

A walk through Application Site

Application Site works hand-in-hand with the second generation Smart Operation Panel. The operation panel, which comes as a standard with Ricoh’s GWNX-enabled MFPs, allows much more intuitive operation and better usability.

Application Site resides on the Home screen of the Smart Operation Panel, and mainly serves the function of showcasing, installing, managing, and updating the apps. While anyone can browse the apps list and details from the site, only device administrators are authorised to install or manage the apps.

Showcase

Users can browse a list of apps and view their details through a PC web browser or Smart Operation Panel dashboard. The search can be narrowed down by functional categories of the MFPs like Print, Scan, Copy, Fax, Device Management, Security, and Others.

Install

Only device administrator or customer engineer can install the apps. The installation process involves a few simple steps during which a product key is needed to validate the installation based on licence control types.

Manage

The device administrators are responsible for managing the apps. They can install or uninstall apps, and update multiple apps at a time. All installed apps show up at the Home screen of the Smart Operation Panel.

Update

Administrators can also update the Smart Operation Panel firmware if a newer version is required to support an app or if it is needed to be restored to a previous version. The firmware update can be performed either during the installation of apps or manually on the administrator screen.

Smart apps, smarter functions

Application Site hosts a wide range of useful apps that contribute to ease-of-use and increased efficiency.

ID Card Copy

This app makes it possible to quickly create a paper copy of an ID card. By simplifying the process of making a useable record of an ID card, the app saves users’ time and increases convenience.

Conference Concierge

This app simplifies and speeds up the process of creating supporting materials for conferences and events. This helps users save time preparing for events and ensure that presentations are reinforced.

Scan to Folder Helper

This app makes it easy for users to set up folders for when they want to scan documents directly to a particular location. This enables a fast, convenient access to their documents for future retrieval.

Scan to Me

This app enables a user to send scanned documents to their own email address. Once the email is registered on the machine address book, the app automatically emails the scan to the one who logged in.

Book Copy Helper

This app helps users obtain high quality copy output regardless of the ADF position. It automatically removes shadows in the output when copying books, giving a quality exposure to the copy.

Innovating the way we work

There are numerous advantages of Ricoh’s Application Site in terms of better apps management and simplified processes. Listed below are some of them:

  • Centralised access—having all apps in a single place makes it more accessible, reducing the hassle of finding the right app at the right time
  • Streamlined workflow—all apps are designed for specific device functions, thus making the workflow more seamless and responsive
  • Easy apps management—with an improved approach for installing, updating and uninstalling apps, managing apps has never been so easy

Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)

When a customer buys a Ricoh device, the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) includes the purchase price and the running costs over the lifetime of the product. The TCO is calculated in steps, using these costs and quantities: Cost of supplies and consumables Expected yield of supplies and consumables Document volumes Expected lifespan of the device Purchase price. Many different software tools are available, via the internet and from your sales manager, to help you calculate TCO. Four steps to calculate TCO There are basically four steps to calculate the TCO: Step 1:  Calculate Cost Per Page (CPP) Step 2:  Calculate average monthly running cost Step 3:  Calculate lifetime running cost Step 4:  Calculate TCO. You can use these steps to calculate the TCO of a Ricoh device and a competitor's device. The difference in TCO between different devices is an important part of the sales approach, when TCO is an advantage. This column contains the business overview. Step 1: Calculat...

ECO Night Sensor

ECO Night Sensor Ricoh’s ECO Night Sensor is an energy saving feature that works by detecting the amount of ambient light in the room. Depending on available settings in a Ricoh device, it automatically turns off the device’s main power, or shifts it to Energy Saver Mode, when the amount of light falls below a certain level. The latest version of ECO Night Sensor also turns the power on when the amount of light increases. The sensor detects the increase and fall of both natural and artificial light, significantly reducing the device’s power consumption and running cost How does it work?  The sensor is located on the operation panel, and its settings can be changed at the operation panel display. The settings include the level of light that triggers the power off timer, and the amount of time for a device to turn off after the light threshold was detected.  Brightness level When ECO Night Sensor detects the light level threshold, the timer is activated....

The work together, anywhere revolution – is here to stay

Ricoh’s Director of Strategy and Innovation, Mike Baddeley discusses the paradigm shift happening right now. With over 30 years in the technology industry, he’s been mapping and predicting the trends we now find ourselves implementing in weeks, rather than years. This article takes a look at how our workstyles are influencing our interaction with technology and what this means for us all. During this period of accelerated remote working, video conferencing has become the key collaboration tool for many. But more than simply connecting us for a virtual face to face has inadvertently enabled a mini social experiment. As people have begun to play with the editable background in some collaboration tools, it has become a window into where the person on the call would like to be. But how much does the choice of these backgrounds reveal about our personalities and, more than that, how much do they reveal about our human desires? Our urge to connect with people in places we dream of being. Per...
